The first version of Outlaw is v3.0.6 — because it was built on top of the Corona Project Manager IDE and it’s basically just a name change. I thought starting the numbering over at 1.0 would needlessly complicate things.
Why the Name Change?
Because I started supporting Moai SDK development in CPM and it was just awkward. While Corona Labs (Ansca Mobile) has been very good to me, and I want to retain a great relationship with them, it was suggested that promoting my own brand might be a better idea than promoting someone else’s.
Outlaw is an IDE that can be used for Moai SDK development, Corona SDK development, and in the future, who knows? (ImpactJS, anyone?)
The Difference Between CPM 3.0.5 and Outlaw 3.0.6
The main differences are in treating Moai as a “1st class citizen.” There’s now a place for Moai SDK autocomplete words in Preferences, Outlaw changes the destination of the links in the Help menu based on whether you have a Corona SDK or Moai SDK project active, etc.
When new features are added they will, in most cases, be available for developers of either framework.
I don’t expect a new version of Corona Project Manager to ever emerge — with Outlaw taking over I don’t see a need to keep two code bases going (or even one code base with different branding). All Corona Project Manager owners can get a copy of Outlaw for free.
